In June and July several BALMAS dissemination activities were done by the FB6 OGS – National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics from Trieste, Italy.
- A conference in the framework of the IPA Adriatic Project SHAPE (Shaping an Holistic Approach to Protect the Adriatic Environment between coast and sea) was held on June 19th, 2014 at the Palazzo della Regione in Venice. On the occasion, Dr. Marina Cabrini introduced the project IPA Adriatic BALMAS and its main objectives.
- Within the framework of the Conference "sounds, mysteries and aliens above and below our seabed" coordinated by Lega Ambiente at the Caffè San Marco in Trieste on July 3rd, 2014 dr. Marina Cabrini was invited to exibit the communication entitled "Ecological impacts of the maritime traffic and ballast water risks assessment". On the occasion, she displayed the main objectives of the draft IPA Adriatic BALMAS and the risk concerning the introduction of harmful aquatic organisms and pathogens (HAOP) by ships’ ballast water. She displayed the Port Baseline Survey protocol, showed the main parameters involved and the sampling sites within the port of Trieste.
- Within the framework of the 3rd WORKSHOP ADRIPLAN (ADRiatic Ionian maritime spatial PLANning) held in the Palazzo della Regione in Trieste on July 7th, 2014, Dr. Marina Cabrini breefly illustrated the main goals of IPA Adriatic BALMAS project and main risks of the HAOP species introducted through ballast water, stressing the attention on the importance of a cross-border system linking all Adriatic researchers, experts, and authorities to avoid the unwanted risks to the entire environment and to human.
